Functions of the Collector of Stamps Office :

The Office of the Collector of Stamps carries out the following functions under the Maharashtra Stamp Act:

1.Determining the stamp duty payable on documents.
2.Recovering deficit stamp duty along with applicable penalties.
3.Assessing the market value of properties where required for stamp duty purposes.
4.Issuing refunds for excess or wrongly paid stamp duty.
5.Investigating cases of stamp duty evasion.
6.Monitoring licensed stamp vendors.

Additionally, periodic inspection visits are conducted by the Office of the Collector of Stamps, Mumbai, to subordinate Sub-Registrar offices. The primary objective of these inspections is to ensure that appropriate stamp duty is being collected on documents registered under the Maharashtra Stamp Act. These inspections help prevent revenue loss and contribute to increased revenue collection, which is a key goal of the Collector of Stamps, Mumbai.
